Winter can be one of the hardest times of year on your car. To make sure you and your car are ready for the upcoming season, here are some tips to follow and services we recommend.
Read your owner’s manual. Yes, that book that came with your car. Look for the service schedule and see if your car is due for any routine maintenance.
Correct any performance problems. If you experience rough idling, hard starts, diminished power, etc., these problems will only get worse in the winter. Have them correct now before they cause you major grief.
Replace dirty filters. These include the air filter, fuel filter, and PCV. Dirty filters make your car less efficient causing it to use more gasoline.
Replace your wiper blades. These need to be changed every six months or so. If it’s been longer than that, get a fresh set before the heavy snow and ice set in.
Check the battery. Have your battery checked to make sure it will last through the winter.
Inspect lights. As the days continue to get shorten, you don’t want to be left in the dark. Make sure all your exterior lights are working so that you can see the road and other drivers can see you.
HVAC. Make sure your heating and ventilation system is working as it should. This is not only to keep you comfortable, but to help clear the windows from fog, too.
Carry an emergency kit. Just in case something happens and you get stuck on the side of the road in your car, have an emergency kit on hand with things like extra blankets, an old charged cell phone, high-energy snacks, etc.
