Located north of Lancaster is the small borough of East Petersburg, Pennsylvania. Even with a population of only about 4,500, it has an extensive park system that includes bike paths, basketball courts, tennis courts, playgrounds, and ball fields. There is also a community swimming pool along with a community center and open pavilion available for community and family gatherings.

East Petersburg is a great place to live—it offers the peace, quiet, and community feel unique to a small town, while being close enough to larger cities for easy access to the conveniences of modern life.

Every Tuesday all year long, there is a local farmer’s market that sells produce, baked goods, arts & crafts, and other local items. It is open from 9am through 9pm and draws crowds from the local area and further afield.

The area in and around East Petersburg has been inhabited since before the American Revolution. A nearby mill was already producing grain before the war even started. The East Petersburg Historical Society, which operates out of the Daniel Wolf House built in 1810, works to preserve the history of the local area by collecting letters, journals, relics, and other materials related to East Petersburg.

It wasn’t until 1946 that East Petersburg was officially incorporated. In fact, it took an epidemic of typhoid fever in the late 1940s to make this happen. After the outbreak, two local doctors had the area water tested. State officials found that the water was contaminated because the wells and sewage drains were too close together. Because of this, a committee decided to incorporate the area in order to establish a municipal water system. East Petersburg was officially incorporated on December 20, 1946.

Here at Lancaster Nissan, we are proud to serve our neighbors in East Petersburg and look forward to welcoming all our customers into the Lancaster Nissan family.
